San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich recently heaped high praise on Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, comparing him to Hall of Famer Larry Bird.
Not everyone was one the same page with Popovich and many have compared Dallas Mavericks swingman Luka Doncic to the Boston Celtics great.
Former Indiana Pacers standout and Hall of Famer Reggie Miller was asked Friday morning on "The Dan Patrick Show" who he thought was more like Bird.
Miller didn't miss a beat: "Luka."
Miller noted Popovich is "arguably" one of his favorite NBA coaches but he felt Doncic had something that Jokic didn't.
Killer offensive instinct.
"Larry Bird was a straight assassin scorer," Miller said. "He would put 35 on you in a half. He had that killer instinct. Luka more has that killer instinct offensively and can pass the basketball."
Miller recognized that Jokic is 7-foot and Doncic doesn't have the size of the 6-9 Bird. However, Miller said, while Jokic can score that killer offensive instinct isn't a part of his game.
"(Jokic) is not trying to come in each and every night trying to embarrass you. Luka tries to embarrass you, I think," Miller said.
"So in terms of who is closer to Larry Bird in my opinion, it would be Luka Doncic."
