Larry Bird reference when discussing Blake Griffins knee surgery

Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey used a Larry Bird reference when discussing Blake Griffin's knee surgery.

Griffin is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on his left knee. The Pistons star underwent a successful arthroscopic debridement of the knee.

#Pistons Dwane Casey on Blake Griffin's injury: "It's like when Rick Pitino said, 'Larry Bird isn't walking through that door.' ... Blake Griffin isn't walking through that door." — Rod Beard (@detnewsRodBeard) January 7, 2020

Blake Griffin, who has no lift or speed at the moment, has been a shell of himself this season for the Pistons. He's averaging just 15.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 18 games while shooting a woeful 35.2 percent from the field and 24.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Griffin was a superstar last season. He appeared in 75 games for the Pistons and put up 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. Detroit made the playoffs for the first time since 2016, but they got swept by the Milwaukee Bucks in part because Griffin only played in Games 3 and 4 due to his knee injury.

Blake underwent knee surgery after the playoffs ended.

The Pistons might have to blow up the roster and trade Griffin and Andre Drummond if the losing continues in The Motor City. Detroit is just 13-24 on the season, 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Griffin has arguably one of the worst contracts in the league, considering he hasn't been playing well this season. The former high-flyer is making $34.2 million this season and owed $36.6 million in 2020-21.
